How do I Increase my Sales Performance?

How I Elevated My Sales Performance over the years. Learn this and you can do it too.

As someone who’s navigated the industries of sales for years, I know the highs and lows of hitting targets, managing pipelines, and keeping clients engaged. So, how do I increase my sales performance? Sales isn’t just about pitching; it’s about evolving constantly to stay ahead. Elevating your sales activity isn’t about working harder—it’s about working smarter. Here are some of my tips and tricks that you can use.

Setting Clear, Actionable Goals

The first change that made a difference was setting clear goals. I used to think that a goal like increasing revenue was enough, but I learned that vague objectives don’t drive effective action and don’t answer how to increase my sales performance. Now, I break down my goals into specific, actionable steps—like making a certain number of calls daily or setting up at least one new meeting every week. By making my goals measurable and time-bound, I could track my progress and stay accountable.

Improving My Time Management with the 80/20 Rule

Time was a huge factor in how I optimised my sales activity. Like many in sales, I used to think every lead deserved equal attention, but I was burning through time on prospects who weren’t likely to convert. How did I increase my sales performance? I applied the 80/20 rule—focusing 80% of my time on the 20% of clients that could lead to the biggest returns. Prioritising leads and deals based on their potential impact on my goals helped me invest my time where it mattered most.

Leveraging Data and CRM Tools

I used to rely too heavily on intuition, thinking I knew my clients inside out. But without data, even the best sales instincts can be off. I started using my CRM religiously, not just to keep track of leads but to monitor trends in client behaviour, engagement levels, and buying patterns. Insights from the CRM allowed me to adjust my approach based on real-time data.

Refining My Outreach Strategy

My outreach game was strong, but it wasn’t personal enough. I used to rely on one-size-fits-all messaging, but I realised that personalization makes a world of difference in answering how do I increase my sales performance? Instead of generic follow-ups, I began tailoring emails and calls to each prospect’s specific needs, referencing their industry trends, and even recent events in their business.

Tip for You: Personalise your outreach as much as possible. Show that you understand each client’s specific pain points, and they’re far more likely to engage. Even small tweaks to make messages relevant can significantly increase response rates and increase my sales performance.

Developing My Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

Sales is people-driven, and understanding clients on an emotional level can be transformative. Developing my EQ helped me communicate more effectively, listen actively, and read between the lines. I noticed that clients appreciated this kind of approach, where I wasn’t just selling but genuinely listening to them and addressing their concerns. How do I increase my sales performance? Developing emotional intelligence has been key.

Continuous Learning and Adaptation

Sales strategies evolve, and so should we. I found that dedicating time to learning new trends, digital tools, and strategies kept me relevant and helped me tackle an increase in my sales performance. Podcasts, webinars, and industry articles became a regular part of my routine. The more I learned, the better I could adapt my approach to be effective in an ever-changing landscape.

Embracing Automation, but Staying Human

I thought automation was about efficiency. While that’s true, I found that it was just as important to know when to engage personally. Automated follow-ups are great, but there’s no substitute for a well-timed personal message. Balancing these made my interactions more meaningful and less transactional.

Elevating sales activity is an ongoing journey, and what works for one person might not work for another. But by setting goals, managing time effectively, leveraging tools, refining communication, and staying adaptable, I was able to see real progress. How do I increase my sales performance? Each change I made built on the last, and today I’m not just hitting targets—I’m building stronger client relationships and creating a sustainable approach to sales.
